Great! I subscribe to a Mac list to read about how one guy finds Windows
doesn't need much work at the same time I'm getting e-mails from people tearing
their hair out trying to open one simple damn file on NT.
One, NT is possibly the Worst Version of Windows EVER. I'm a pro at this, and *I* couldn't keep my NT 4 system from blue-screening at least twice a day. Win2K was so much better it was *almost* like getting a Mac...
Two, I can tell you exactly how people survive on Windows without an IT person: slowly spiraling down to an nonfunctional computer.
I've seen people working with PCs that were roughly the equivalent of driving a car with three blown cylinders, a hole in the oil pan, two flat tires (and the other two are of different sizes) and in the last fill-up they mistakenly filled it with diesel instead of gasoline.
It's *stunning* what people will just accept when it comes to these things. "Oh yes, whenever I start up my PC these five windows pop up and it dials out three times to different phone numbers. I just close them all and start MS Office. Then I go do laundry, and it's ready to use by the time I put in the second load. I guess I need a new computer." (This was someone with a 2-year-old Pentium 4, just with about 70 kajillion things running on it, the vast majority of which the owner had no clue about.)
