 There is a way to increase the finder memory.:

[on a copy - important]

 I use "Fast Find" from Norton to change the type from FNDR to APPL.
   (There are other ways, I just don't recall them.)

(Search for finder to locate the copy--> information ( i ) -->settings-->
(FNDR) -->(APPL)

after which I get info and change the memory requirement.

 Then reverse the above. Save your original by putting it in the trash (do
not empty) then put the adulterated finder in your system folder and move
the original some where else safe.

 Restart.

If all is well, you can throw away the old finder, if not change it back,
putting the adulterated finder in the trash.

 HTH,

 Paul
