Hmmm. Well, I guess I owe you (and all the listers) an apology here for
not specifying the version of ClarisWorks I'm using -- it's 4.0, not 5.0.

that doesnt make a difference here, I used both versions without your problem occuring.

just trash the xtend prefs, it will be recreated upon restart of the program, the program itself asks you to do just that when it can not find a certain translator option, you wont loose any settings.

Anyway -- when I discovered the problem, one of the first things I did was reinstall it fresh from the CD ROM onto my HD which has the OS 9.1 on it -- so to my knowledge nothing should be missing or corrupted. The reinstall forced me to have to fix my dictionary and thesaurus settings, and since my Claris Emailer is also on that same CD, it "messed" with that too and I had to re-enter my preferences, but didn't do anything about the "Save As" problem.

how is that ? the emailer installer is not even near the claris installer - I have that cd too.
did you trash all the old claris settings in the systemfolder before installing new ? is the cd in good condition ??

OK, so tell me, what does the "xtend" list in the preference folder do? I want to know this before I start trashing it.

I guess it maps the translators
