Hmmm. Just did a "test" to see if I had the same problems. I have both
AppleWorks 6 and ClarisWorks 4 on the same machine. I see all the 
"Save As" options in ClarisWorks 4. When exercised, they appear with
an icon created by AppleWorks 6. I expect this is because the newer
version replaced the icon file in the desktop directory. Now I don't
have a good guess as to why your ClarisWorks is not working. 

It seems that the two versions on my machine "see" their individual
translator files as the list is much more extensive in ClarisWorks
than in AppleWorks.

It sure seems like there is some conflict in your system, but I am 
at a loss to explain where or how.
