Thanks for all the suggestions I've received so far on my two problem PM 8500s -- the ones that power up but don't give the chime or provide any video output (what are the changes of getting two of these with the same problem within a couple of weeks?):
(well , I have 4 light bulbs in the hallway lights - one evening they all exploded at exactly the same second, makin the hallway total black, poltergeist if you ask me:)
The first 8500 had been upgrade with a Sonnet G3 processor. I've replaced the power supply, reseated all of the RAM and VRAM, made sure all of the connections are secure, replaced the battery, reseated one PCI card (for USB connectivity), reseated the Sonnet processor, reset the CUDA switch and even tried the original processor.
change the wram between the 2 machines ? any shortcircuit anyplace in the system would give that result,
And the results? Nothing -- or the same ... a power on light, an all-too-brief spin-up of the hard drive and that's it.
one of my 7300 does that if the screen is connected at the back -
Any other suggestions before I give up on this first 8500? I'm just getting started with the second one.
8500 are quite complicated to dessembly - I have one in the attic, they stand up don't they ? or is that a 8600.
