Well, this is helping and all, but let's not forget that the hard drive won't boot. To get an image of a boot floppy, go to Apple's FTP site and get a bootable disk image; I like the Network Access 7.5.5 disk. (Google "apple network access" and look for the link.) Write the image to a floppy (or some other media) and stick it in a Mac. Power on or restart and watch it boot. Then, you'll have a minimalist OS (lacking color and fancy options) but enough to take a look at the hard drive and see what's up with it (and network, too).I'll be interested in the solution to this problem; even if it didn't have a
HD in it, it should boot from a 9.2.2 CD, shouldn't it? Unless it's just a
9.2.2 upgrade, right?
Because you are saying "it's just a 9.2.2 upgrade", I'm not sure. 1. Does your CD contain a COMPLETE OS9 + upgrades->9.2.2 ? 2. Or does your CD contain ONLY the upgrades from 9.0 to 9.2.2 ? If 1.: Yes! If 2.: No!
Note: If your hard drive is empty or unpartitioned, partition it and copy the contents of the disk to the hard drive. Then delete "Minimal System Enabler 702" from your System Folder and restart; then you'll have a barebones OS! System 7.5.5 is free for download in its entirety from Apple's web site, but you'll need Disk Copy to open it (a version that supports .SMI's).
I don't know how to write the floppy image on a Mac (but I imagine it's fairly easy), but on a PC, look for a copy of RawWriteXP (file name RAWRITEXP.EXE) if you're running WinXP; RawWrite (RAWRITE.EXE) otherwise. (If you need a PC copy of RawWriteXP, ask me--it's freeware.)
