Mike,
Have you tried other shortcut icons?
It seems to be, the problem is not with IE, but with your system.
When you left click, the should give the "open" command, the same as right
clicking and choosing "open".
Right click, choose properties and this will tell you if it is a short cut
and where it is pointing to.
