Did you try what I suggested below? You don't need IE installed
to do that. You can JUST download IE using opera from the update
site. The IE repair tool should also still be there.

the last 2 years or more. I have just to save/move some programs

another partition and then move them back again after a fresh
install.
At this stage I think this would be the best way to go. Thanks to
