Peter,

Actually, what I am referring to is any and all newsgroups, including your
every day newsgroups as well as secured. It just seems that I can not get
Messanger to stop sending down to my system all headers, whether I have
read the message or not. And then in many cases, it still wanted to display
all the headers even when I checked to display only messages that were
unread. This one has thrown me for a loop since I should only be seeing the
unread messages showing up, not all messages.

Ralph, if you are not using the news reader in Netscape to view secure
newsgroups then a program which specializes in just this may be more to
your liking. Remember, just because an application offers everything under
one roof doesn't mean it will do all of it well, look at MS
Outlook. Outlook is a great scheduling tool but for email and newsgroups
it is a security nightmare.
Take a look at Agent for news reading
http://www.forteinc.com/main/homepage.php or XNews
http://xnews.3dnews.net/. HTH
