Cindy - I don't use Earthlink - have you gone into your settings of Outlook Express/Options/Connection tab to make sure you don't have checked off "to hang up after sending and receiving??"
Check your Internet Options in Control Panel to see if the correct home page is listed there in the address under General. If not make sure you click apply, okay after changing.
