Harold, why on Earth do you have to use e-cleaner and do all this pasting a re-positioning in MSword??? Wow, I've never heard of such a thing buddy! :-) Why are you making things so difficult for you? Just hit "reply", type your text, remove the footer, the old email header (except for addresses), then "send".
Figuring out what is old and what is new is what keeping the email in format is for. If this is done, all those annoying >>> that build up in threads are not needed. I have OE set to NOT add anything onto old text. This makes a long thread (like with a customer) impossible to read, and I wish our customers would do it as well. Everyone knows what is old (like in this case) by simply scrolling down and seeing what is below your email header. The only time I use them is if I have to paste a direct quote that needs to be addressed DIRECTLY from an email into my reply. Then I'll just type a > before the paragraph so all will know it's a previous email quote. Personally I prefer it this way. Like you, I find it very aggravating to have to scroll through an email to see a reply. This is especially irritating when it's done to an email I've sent (to any list or any individual). What I do is go through and entire routine ... copying the section I'm replying to, using eCleaner (that's a must on any computer) to straighten it out for re-posting, pasting it into MSWord (with the "he said's and she said's), then adding my two cents. There has to be an easier way where all the text lines up right and where it is easy to see what is old and what is new. Regarding this last point, (using Netscape 4.79), my email comes in with new text black and old text red (easy to see what's new in the mail and what happened before (the thread). Maybe it's because I've gone to Edit, Preference, Appearance, Colors, and configured the Text to be black, Unvisited links to be green and Visited links to be red.
