This issue comes up from time to time and never seems to get settled. Part of the problem is a hangover from newsgroups, where replies are always at the bottom. In this group, and others, it makes sense to me that the reply should be at the top-if you're replying to me, I know what I said, and I'm only interested in the reply. Anyone following the thread is in the same position. Actual practice is up to the correspndents.
Steps in responding: For this email, I first copied the two paragraphs I wished to include in my reply (I'm using Outlook) and then hit "Reply", then I pasted the copied material into the new message. This immediately eliminated the Header/Footer problem. I then typed my reply and hit "Send". I always use *** to separate the answer from the reply, but I've seen other separators used as well. That's all there is to it-no ecleaner, no Word, no colors. I've taught this to most of my correspondents, especially the ones who seem to think the only Toolbar button to use is "Forward". A message full of >>>>>> is a message worth deleting. **************************************************************************** ******************************************** I've seen this suggestion re email ... "Do NOT type your reply at the end of the original email. I know it sounds logical, but the recipient has to scroll down to the bottom to read it. And he can't read your message in his preview panel." I've also read (I think it was right here in PCWorks), that it is best to configure the email to have the response at the bottom of the thread. Are there any thoughts on this dilemma? Btw, I wish someone would explain in detail the steps in responding to a message for this room. What I do is go through and entire routine ... copying the section I'm replying to, using eCleaner (that's a must on any computer) to straighten it out for re-posting, pasting it into MSWord (with the "he said's and she said's), then adding my two cents. ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
