So what do you think that screen image is? Yeah I know all about that memory. What are you using? I spent months researching it before I bought it. I'm using Geil Ultra Platinum PC4000 2x256mb DC kit. I wanted the OCZ Gold PC4000, but it was $75 more!! They are both 2.5-4-4-7, but the OCZ is a bit faster. "PAT" is enabled as is "Turbo" settings which I think the latter is something like F1 or Streetracer settings on the IC7. Regardless of memory settings, I can't get more than 255mhz bus @ 1:1 from this 2.4C (for those that don't know, that's P4 2.4ghz with 800mhz quad pumped bus. Default bus is 200mhz and 255mhz makes it 3060mhz or 3.06ghz roughly). Obviously I have a under achiever CPU since most are getting 3.4ghz from that CPU. Same thing with the CPU:Memory ratio at 3:2 or 5:4, which of course is slower than 1:1, so it's not a memory limit issue. I was able to lower my timings to 2.5-3-4-6 @DDR510/255mhz and it still runs fine. Geil is guaranteed up to 2.9v, and they said it will work from 2.6-2.9v, and it won't even boot @2.75v! So, I have to have it set to the max of the mobo which is 2.85v. This is pretty common with aggressive high end memory not booting at default voltages. However, I've yet to fix the MemTest86 problem...pages of errors REGARDLESS of settings and even at default speeds. I need to find a way to determine if they are CPU cache errors, mobo memory errors, or RAM errors.
This was the first crash I had on it, and I'm more inclined to believe it was a combo of all that removing, adding, disabling/enabling of various HD's and controllers without cleaning the registry or removing them from the device manager. I'm not concerned about that now since this is just a test bed for now and the HD will be reformatted again when I've decided on the best combo's, hardware and settings. That's why I didn't bother to "clean up" after each HD was tested. If you let it set the memory timings by spd, especially if the ram is not brand new, it will be too aggressive. I know Corsair has change the spd on their fastest memory to adjust for this.. Have you run "mem test" on it? It took me a while to get the memory settings correct on my IC7. It would seem ok and then fail mem test miserably. Memory voltage has also been a problem, at least with the Abit boards. The default is 2.5 volts. Most memory will run up to 2.7 volts in their specifications. I know a lot of people who have solved memory problems by bumping up the voltage. So some combination of more relaxed timings and voltage has usually solved most problems. All that is at 200 FSB.
