David,
Is this the only time you have trouble, sending emails?
If so, then your SMTP settings are not correct.

Peter, I downloaded my e-mail and prepared my comments, but when I was ready
to Send/Receive, there was no response. Again, the little modem icon shows
that all is well! I had to reboot in order to send this message.

I have a generic 56K modem.
