You could be right. It would mean hyper manual. Still, I think it
works slightly different. Like you said, when being in manual mode, a
press of mode (IF) button switches camera to aperture priority mode.
But how do you enter manual mode in the first place? It goes other
way around, actually. Namely, being in aperture priority mode, with
rotation of the main dial you instantly enter manual mode. By
pressing the mode button camera returns to aperture priority. But
this is actually hyper manual as well, since it returns shutter speed
to auto value and with just another turn of the main dial you are
back in manual mode. It is very easy indeed.

However, I can see a problem if being in aperture priority mode
and NOT wanting to enter manual mode, since it is obvious that with
an intentional OR accidental turn of the mail dial camera enters
manual mode. And here comes the hold switch. By pushing the hold
switch to the right camera locks shutter speed so it can't be
accidentally changed. This is where I'm confident about it. What I am
not sure is how the camera holds the shutter speed. Does it

a) lock shutter speed and stays in aperture priority so with changing
conditions it corrects shutter speed to the measured value
or
b) it locks shutter speed permanently until the hold switch is
returned to the left - unhold position?

I'd expect it works like this:
a) when being in aperture priority mode (aperture ring is set to the
desired value and mode button was pressed or main dial was not
rotated), hold swtich locks shutter speed so it cannot be changed by
accidental rotation of the main dial, but shutter speed is still
controlled by camera's light meter,
b) when being in manual mode (aperture ring is set to the desired
value AND the main dial was rotated), hold switch locks shutter speed
so it can't by changed by accidental turn of the main dial,
c) when being in program mode, by pressing hold switch, camera stays
in program mode, so by turning the main dial camera doesn't enter
shutter priority mode.

Let's wait and see till somebody can really clear this out.
