I got interested in Leicas back in the late Sixties when I saw a man at
wedding pull a small camera from his pocket that had a collapsible lens. It
was a Leica IIIf. Back then Leicas could be had for a steal. I found one
for sale for $90 that included a 5cm Elmar lens and a 35mm Nikkor lens in
screw mount.
At a swap meet I attended today, Saturday, a dealer had several Leica
clones from the old Soviet Union. I have one FED Russian Leica. For awhile
I sought out Leica copies, like Canons, and Niccas.
A couple of years ago I was able to handle some really rare Leicas, namely a
dial Compur shutter Leica and a Leica 250. The owner let me look at his
treasure trove when he noticed I was using a Leica M2 to photograph a
wedding.
