Because one costs $160 weighing a feather light 190g with full frame
coverage, and the other costs $430 with a more substantial 365g weight
for digital bodies only.

Cos primes has less compromise than zoom and it is faster at F2.8.
A F2.8 zoom in this range would be quite a monster.
