some perspective. several financial analysts have written about the state of digital camera sales with the CIPA (Japanese manufacturers) release of the July digital camera manufacturing figures. the most important to you is that North American sales dropped about 14% in July compared to June. with regard to DSLR sales, they grew somewhat overall, but Nikon grew very much while Canon's dropped. the D70 is a much more popular camera than the Digital Rebel, it seems. Pentax was the first to announce a downward revision of sales figures for the year, with all of the other Japanese vendors expected to follow suit in the next few weeks. some analysts don't believe the new Pentax numbers and think they should be lower yet. a couple of new low end DSLRs are expect to hit the marketplace in the October timeframe in time for Christmas. analysts are expecting a price war on the low end DSLR market with the smaller companies like Pentax losing out. profit margins on DSLRs, current quite high, are expected to plummet, although they will not drop to the razor thin margins of 3 and 4 megapixel cameras.
