On the other hand, after the istDs (baby istD) comes out, the istD may become totally unavailable. The problem with that is, according to someone who has actually handled a prototype, the istDs will only use SD cards, so memory cards will not be interchangeable between the two cameras, not a good thing for someone who has already invested a bunch in CF cards.

From the description I received the istDs is going to be a lower price replacement for the istD, rather than a just a cheaper model (my interpretation).

I agree with Pat.  Paul, you're a pro, you know what you want, you're
apparently much more than satisfied with what the *istD does for you,
you're now intimately familiar with it.

Wait a couple of months for what? A discount of a couple of hundred? How much money can you make off having a second body in that time? My
bet is "more than the couple of hundred you'll save by waiting".
