I tend to agree with your logic. I've stood in torrential downpours to make photos with my LXen without a care in the world. However I got caught in pretty heavy rain the other day with my *ist D and nothing to shield it with, I had a heck of a time keeping the water off it. I just don't trust toy cameras.
