This is a section from my previous post on
'battery glitches' on the D:

"These D's seem to get real squirrely when the
batteries are nearing death!
The old cells were down to 1.42 volts, apparently
that's the magic number for 'squirrely-ness' on
my particular D! ;-)"

1.4 is getting pretty near the end of an Alkalines useful
life in a camera or a flash.
FWIW I had VERY bad luck with Alkalines and now use only
Lithium cells which seem to last a very long time without
problems. (In the D)
