On 1/1/06, David Mann, discombobulated, unleashed: >The A*85mm f/1.4 has a fixed rear element and it was quite dusty in >there, but to unscrew the rear-element assembly you need to remove >the aperture lever first.
Keep going lad! Your half-way there to converting it to fit EOS :-) >I managed to get it apart without too much trouble but now I'm having >trouble putting it back together. When I was removing the rear >assembly which holds the aperture ring and the mount, the aperture >ring slipped around a bit further than it normally goes and it came >slightly outwards, and now it's jammed up. I suspect some springy >internal piece has stuck itself in a groove and I just can't work out >how to get it free. The aperture ring is quite loose but it won't >rotate more than a few degrees and it can't be moved in or out by >more than a couple of millimetres. Here's some heartening advice. I'm the world's most impatient and fumble- fingered techno when it comes to fiddly bits like lenses. Yet even I managed to pull the back off the 85 mil and re-assemble it (after Dremelling off the aperture lever of course). If I can do it, you can. Certainly don't force anything so that it might bend or break (as I'm sure you're well aware) but by the same token, if it's stuck, give it a nudge. The way I approach these things is that I examine the components until I think I understand what each ones task is. If I understand that, then I understand how it interacts with others around it, and so it becomes clearer how the piece in question operates, and how it fits. I'm afraid that's as good as it gets from me. Keep trying, try alternate positions - it can be deceiving sometimes - you'd swear A fit next to B when you took it apart but in fact it turns out that A actually fits next to C. If the shoe fits..... HTH and HNY :-) Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ || (O) | People, Places, Pastiche ||=====| http://www.cottysnaps.com _____________________________
