You're right, my math was pretty quick and dirty (BTW I didn't count the
laptop, which is provided by my dear employer ;-) ), and my way of doing
may be more expensive than DVD-based methods...
For that extra price, I think it's quite comfortable. I feel more secure
monitoring 2 disks I always have an eye on, knowing that one WILL
eventually fail, then the other, and making sure my data can survive
this, than monitoring a bunch of DVDs sleeping in a vault.
What I would really like is to find a company that sells such archival
service for a reasonable price per GB, with strong enough penalties in
case of permanent data loss that they really make sure it won't happen.
And not bother with this issue anymore...
