I've got a UMAX Astra 1220p a couple a years old and
lately there
has been a gradually widening transparent but canary
yellow band
on each side of the scans. Doesn't matter much when my
object
takes up less than the entire surface of the bed or if I'm
doing photos -
most of which I can keep between the yellow - however ,
see
example below:

The bowl I scanned here is 9" in diameter.
What I dread most is not replacing the hardware but having
gotten the Vista-scan
software to do what I want I hate to think of having to
abandon it.
So, is this an indication of
(a) Something I (one) can fix - that is, one of you can
tell me HOW :)
(b) a truly dying machine - ready for the garbage heap
(c) a software problem I'm missing seeing
(d) the lamp itself just needs replacing?
Is fixing gonna cost me more than replacing it?
Given I need to replace it and want to get a larger flatbed
surface, will I have to
upgrade the scanning software?
Thanks for any help you savvy guys out there can give me.
