Well, that is bad news: I have a HP with exactly the same problem and was
thinking of switching over to UMAX.
Would this be something generic with cheapo scanners?
Anyway, here's my cheapo fix- it's a partial fix, actually. Most of the
times it works, sometimes it doesn't; no idea why, either way.
I had noticed that these bands only occurred when the paper I was scanning
did not cover the scanner bed; I now place a very clean and smooth (no
crumpling permitted) blank A3 sized paper over the A4 document so that the
entire bed is covered.
By doing this, the frequency of the bands showing up has now reduced by
about 85%; still come up when I have something very important to be
scanned, naturally. :-)
If you have a better fix, please share.
