Thanks for the tip RK. I tried covering the whole bed with 3 pieces of
paper (I don`t have any larger paper), but it is still doing the band thing.
 I`ve had a contractor with a tractor at my house for some time now,
and the next time he starts up the tractor I`m going to have him bury
the scanner. Maybe I`ll get some satisfaction.
 It sounds like HP and UMAX are in cahoots with each other in making
crappy scanners.
