Good advice. Also: read the feedback the seller has left for other people,
especially those (if any) with who there have been problems. You tell a
lot from how they deal with others.

You DON'T have to give them your checking account number. I signed up my
S.O. last night, so unless they've changed in the past 12 hours this is
still true.
I haven't gone "Pay Pal only" with my purchasing policy (yet) but I won't
give positive feedback to anyone who makes me buy a money order or use Bid
Pay.
For big dollar stuff (which, frankly, I almost never buy on eBay) I agree
with the escrow recommendation.
