Epson's K3 inkset on the premium papers like Fine Art Velvet,  
Hahnemuele rag, Moab Entrada, etc has been measured at 20% greater  
rendered tonal range than any current silver-halide paper/chemisty  
combination.

"Limited DoF" and "soft out of focus" imaging is a matter of  
rendering and aesthetic judgement. There are certainly qualities of  
medium format film capture images that are very pleasing (I love  
6x6 ... !) but I'd not say that it's a different world, just a  
totally different process.
