My conclusion is that in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing even a small-frame 6MP DSLR is more than capable of delivering the results. I'm not surprised that someone who is used to group photography can come up with an example like this.
Of course that's not going to stop the endless hand-wringing, comparisons of poorly-exposed (or poorly scanned) images, etc. It's a lot easier to blame the equipment ...
