Under Linux setup you chose partitions and if you have two HD drives connected through SATA interface you can define RAID partition and select RAID options to either RAID1 e.g. duplicate information on second HD to improve reliability or RAID0 - to improve performance, so that data is split to chunks which are written/read from two HD drives. This is generally it about RAID. In RAID1 if one HD fails, data is read/written with working device.
