Marnie, that machine almost certainly has a RAID controller built into
it. A quick check, if you're comfortable doing it, would be to reboot
and start the BIOS setup. Depending on which BIOS manufacturer HP used
for that machine's mobo, it could be on just about any menu. :-) It
probably would be on a menu related to setting up the chipset on the
mobo. If you see any RAID setup options, you're golden.

If not, it might still be there, but you'll need to consult HP, or
someone who knows more than me about their machines. :-)

If your machine /doesn't/ have it, you'll want a PATA or SATA card with
RAID built into its firmware. When you install it in the machine, you
should end up with some new BIOS settings you can use to configure the RAID.

If you didn't know, for RAID mirroring you're going to want two drives
with the same capacity, since you'll just lose any extra on the bigger
drive when you set up the mirroring.

============
Found motherboard specifications but no specific mention of RAID, though it
has four SATA connectors.

There is a software download for a RAID driver, but it's an update. So I've
been trying to find the original on my machine, but so far no luck. Though I
am still digging into that.

So I guess the question is if RAID capability is built into the SATA
connectors on the motherboard. And it also explains why the guy at Fry's
directed me
to what just looked like SATA boards. Xmas shopping and all too busy to get
a clerk's attention and ask dumb but pertinent questions. ;-)

It seems like it would be there, but you never know with HP Pavilions. Heh.
Yes, know hd should be same sizes.

You've given me some things to poke into.

Thanks, Doug
