OK, it sounds like you need:

*  an SATA adapter with RAID support and firmware/hardware
*  a hard drive about the size of your current one, or two of the same size

I've never tried to set up a mirrored RAID by adding the RAID and 
another drive to an existing setup.  I'd think one of the options in 
setting up the RAID controller would be "mirror my current drive to the 
new one".

Or you could get two drives, keep what you have where you have it, and 
add the new RAID as extra capacity.
