I recently purchased a Pentax-A 1.4X-L TC and I'm having problems getting
it to communicate aperture settings to my K10D.

When I attach my Pentax-A 400mm F5.6 to it, and mount them on my K10D the
display shows the aperure as 'F--'. I also have a cheap Sakar 1.4X TC and
when I use that the aperture setting is displayed correctly, so the issue
does seem to be with the Pentax TC, rather than the K10D mount or some
setting on the camera.

Looking at the description of the Ka mount contacts on Bojidar Dimitrov's
site I see that aperture data is passed with the '*' designated pin.

On my K10D mount this pin is slightly recessed. On the 'mount' side of my
Pentax-A 1.4X-L TC the contacts are not the usual small,
slightly-protruding, ball-bearing contacts, but rather little
indentations.

I think the problem is that the recessed pin on the K10D is not connecting
with the indentation on the TC. My Sakar TC has the ball
bearings on the 'mount' side which is why it makes a connection and works
correctly.

I've spoken with the person I bought it from and he had no issues with
using it on an LX.

Hope my description makes sense ......

Anyone experienced a similar problem, and have a solution ??

I can use the Pentax-A 1.4X-L TC in manual mode so its not a major
problem, but it would be nice to get it working in 'A' mode.

Thanks.

Fred.
