On my recent trip to Mexico City, I wanted to travel light and inconspicuously, so i took an MX, an M40 2.8, an M100/2.8, and an M200/4. But I also took my M35/2, because I know it's optically superior to the 40/2.8, and I felt that I shouldn't be without it. However I wanted the pancake lens so I could carry the MX in a pocket when wandering through iffy parts of town. I got some nice shots with the 40/2.8 and was quite surprised by the quality of the resulting film. It's probably not quite as sharp as the 35/2, but it's definitely not a bow-wow. Still, if you don't need the compact size, it's probably overpriced. I got it as part of a package, along with an MX, an MX winder, and a K 85/1.8. The whole deal was $420, so I figure I spent less than $100 for the 40/2.8. (Both the 40/2.8 and the 85/1.8 were mint.) Paul
