As a first-order witness, the photographer is therefore always the

I should point out that crop is somewhat similar to either using a
longer lens or coming closer to the subject so as to eliminate whatever
is cropped out. To that end, cropping as such, seems to have no ethical
impact, not in my mind at least.
However, the modification of one's work after it has been submitted by
someone else and on purpose is entirely different kettle of fish.
