Thanks, David. A few years ago, I dropped an FA 28~70 f/2.8 while in Grand Teton NP. We were heading on east, so planned to stop in Westminster, CO and leave it at Pentax repair on our way back to CA.. (bent mounting ring). I checked the Pentax site and found explicit language prohibiting the "dropping off" of any equipment for repair. My guess is that a paper trail break down along with casual note taking, on both sides, resulted in disputes. Your proximity to an accommodating repair service seems ideal.
