The K7 is just a shade over $1000 at bhphotovideo.com - where are you seeing it for $1499 and why would you buy from them?

I don't get free shipping from B&H, so I have to add in the shipping cost, then I will have to pay a brokerage fee to the courier which will add to the cost, plus I will have to pay an import tariff. When it all adds up, my local store is not out of line, and they will price match any Canadian online realtor on price. Their price on the D300 is the one I quoted. They have the D300s in stock, it is $300.00 more than the D300. By buying locally I also don't have to play warranty roulette with a foreign company. Win or lose, if I have to ship the camera to the States for warranty work, any savings I might have gotten by scabbing a camera would get eaten up.

Pentax is a low volume item at a low volume dealer for you, so I expect
you're paying a premium. Even at B&H Pentax is relitively low volume so
the discount will be less than you'd get off list than for the Nikon.
Now I know you like to support your local store, I would too if there
were a local store selling Pentax...

Not so. Don's only has some six stores, but they have done a very good job of positioning themselves, and are quite successful. When we were talking about the K-x they figured that it wouldn't matter how many Pentax shipped to them, they'd sell everything they could get. Don's seems to like Pentax, and Pentax seems to reciprocate. They have arranged a few very nice little Pentax treats for me over the years.

The last time I was in they had something like a dozen lenses on display, with several samples of each behind the display. They don't stock the 200/2.8, 300/4 or the 60-250 zoom, and I don't think they had any of the FA lenses in stock, but they had pretty much all the rest of them, including both 50 and 100 macro. I think they were missing the 35 macro too, which surprises me since they know I don't have one.
