That 999 was from B&H Photo. I just checked and their price is now
1050. I checked on the D300s is selling there for 1499.00.
Pentax is a low volume item at a low volume dealer for you, so I expect
you're paying a premium. Even at B&H Pentax is relitively low volume so
the discount will be less than you'd get off list than for the Nikon.
Now I know you like to support your local store, I would too if there
were a local store selling Pentax...
