lol ... I had a Seagate external drive (can't remember the model at
the moment) that the FW400/USB2 interface board went belly up on last
year. I was sure the drive inside was fine. Tried my best to take it
apart gently but the stupid thing was built so "no user serviceable
components inside" that I ended up taking out the Saws All and just
cutting it open. As expected, the drive inside was just fine: stuck it
in an OWC enclosure and it is in service today. :-)
