I've been using PhotoShop for over 20 years, and I couldn't get by without it. I certainly don't have your knowledge of operating systems or software, but I do realize that PhotoShop has to organize things a bit to get the scratch disk system working and provide access to all plug ins and whatnot. (Do you like that high tech term, "whatnot?" :-). Seriously, every version of PS I've ever owned installed just fine and worked flawlessly. I have no complaints.
