They do but the Pentax software can't read DNGs converted by the Adobe
DNG converter even if it's set for V2.4 compatibility.

I haven't used the Pentax software since Photoshop 7 & the *ist-D, so excuse me if this is a dumb question.

Does the Pentax software offer DNG conversion?

I think not. Variations of quality of jpeg and 8/16bit tiff. I say "think" because although the previous interface was clunky the new one is downright broken.

If so, can your version of Photoshop read THEM?

I ask because the *ist-D could shoot RAW, JPEG & TIFF. If I remember correctly, the Pentax software that came with the *ist-D could output as RAW, JPEG & TIFF as well.

So it seems reasonable to me the Pentax software that comes with the cameras that have DNG capability should also have the ability to output DNG files.

You would thinks so wouldn't you? There is, as far as I can see, no way to adjust the level of (for example) sharpening of jpegs during conversion.

Can you open the files that come out of the Pentax software with Photoshop? Or I guess more to the point, can the Pentax software output files you can open with your version of Photoshop?

Not the new PEFs with CS2. DuNGs work fine. I presume the PEFs will work with the newest incarnation of PS.

That would be the crux of the matter wouldn't it?

Certainly is.
