Ed, I don't think that I would go bigger than 16 X 20 very often, unless I were to change dramatically what I am doing in photography. I do run into ocassions where I need up to 16 X 20 - most notably with larger group shots, where everyone's head is quite small. Blowing those up really show grain and lack of detail. If everything is perfect (exposure, film used, lens used, etc) then it is ok, but I remember Wheatfield saying how much easier it was to get a good shot on MF.
I haven't seen a 30 X 40 from a 4 X 5 interneg. I even investigated digital scanning and Genuine Fractals as a means of not going to MF. All of them seem to promise detail where it doesn't already exist. I feel like I am rambling a bit here. Yes, if there was a way to get the image quality of MF from 35mm I would be happy to stay in 35. I have almost all the equipment I need and am comfortable there. But I haven't discovered a way to do that, hence the investigation into MF.
