The short answer is that the 645 system can replace a 35mm system whereas the 67 can not. This provided that you use a rather complete set of lenses and are not into weightlifting. The weight and size issue is a real one; the body and a set of five lenses for the 645 - 35/3.5, 45/2.8, 75/2.8, 120/4 Macro and 300/5.6 weight less than an F5 with three popular lenses (20-35/2.8, 35-70/2.8 and 80-200/2.8), while covering the same focal length range. You can even add a 1,4X converter to the 645 system and still beat the F5. The 67 stop making sense (for me) for any focal length longer than 150mm (about 75mm in 35mm terms) when the size/weight penalty is becoming ridiculous. The 645 system is manageable up to 400mm (about 300mm in 35mm terms). In addition, the 645 offer other features absent on the 67 like motordrive and AF. Whether these are important enough depend on what you're shooting. If you are carrying your equipment long distance in the field like I do, then I have no doubt that the 645 system is the one to go for. If you only plan to use a couple of lenses then the larger format of the 67 might be preferable. I did plan to add a 67 kit to my system. This would have consisted of the 45/4, 75/2.8 and 135/4 Macro simply because these are the lenses that are smallest and lightest. However, I've put this idea on hold and I will stick to my former plan of adding to the 645 system, making it "complete". Not at least because it probably will form the basis of high-end Pentax digital camera in the near future. Pl - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
