My point is that there's no guessing at all with a VCCE head when 
changing filtration.

I suspect this depends on many factors, including film, developer, 
time/temp, subject, etc. I personally don't use it much for the 
simple reason I like a cooler paper. Plus it turns a funny purple 
color when selenium toned.
 
Let me apologize to anyone who may have been offended by my earlier 
comments. I'm well aware that dichro heads produce exactly the same 
type of light as a VCCE head, and therefore you get exactly the same 
end results. I used one for 2 years.I was just voicing my frustration 
- I wish I'd known how much easier a VCCE head is to use when I was 
making my first  enlarger purchase. My productivity has really taken 
a huge jump.
