E.g., the images on my camera are in subfolders by date in a folder for the year. When importing
directly from the camera into LR end up with a subfolder for "2010" in the folder for
"2010." Then I have to move the folders in the subfolder to the folder, which I find
awkward in LR. It would be easier to do in Finder before importing the dated folders into LR.
(i use Aperture; it is slightly different from LR, but i'm pretty sure
you can get the same result)
i used to copy to disk first, but i realized it was an extra step that
slowed me down significantly' the actual time the computer took may be
similar, but the old way i had to set up the copy, wait, then set up the
import, and wait -- now i can just pop the card into the side of my
computer, tell it to import, and come back later and everything's done
so now i always import directly and automatically from the card into
year/month/day folders; Aperture remembers to:
Store Files: "2010"
Subfolder: "Image Month/Day"
the names may be a bit different in LR, but having two nested 2010
folders would be as if i had selected instead:
Subfolder: "Image Year/Month/Day"
(which would make a 2010 folder and place that folder within the
existing 2010 folder) -- i think you'll find you need to either point it
at the level above the main 2010 folder when telling LR where to import
to, or have LR only make month and day subfolders, not a year subfolder
