I'm pretty sure that you can't ~change~ a description once a bid is
made.  I know you can "add" information below the original description.
If such an addition is relevent to the price, I've seen sellers invite
bidders to retract bids if they wish.

I've also seen auctions close early due to missing or incorrect info
which was so germain as to make the auctions fundamentally inaccurate.

In this case, he changed the description as no bids were made, so no one
was injured by the apparently innocent mistake.
