Somewhere along the way, I read an article that made the point
(loosely paraphrased here) that when any online outfit (facebook,
google, etc)  offers you something for free, it means that *you* are
the product they are trying to sell.

Now, I use facebook, google and other "free" online services all the
time, but I keep this mind.  I also try to keep it in the minds of my
kids... it's amazing how many folks today regard facebook as some kind
of public utility, created by Mark Zuckerberg out of the goodness of
his heart to enrich all of our lives.   I prefer to  regard it -and
use it - with eyes wide open.
