Good stuff! :-)

But buying equipment only rarely does much to improve one's
photography. I'm in the middle of a bit of equipment paradigm changing
myself and I certainly don't think that's any basis for improvement
(although I will say I'm quite delighted with the new equipment I've
acquired in the process).

Since closing the photo business and going full bore into a new field,
as expected I find my time to do photography has shrunk. On the other
hand, when I do photography now, it is generally with greatly
increased focus and without the constraints of thinking about
marketing, salability, etc in mind.

So this year, in preparation for heading to the Isle of Man, I
reviewed all the photos I'd made there in 2005, 2006 and 2008. I
thought about them carefully and planned what I was interested to
shoot, realizing that it is rare to be able to do a "complete" project
in one visit. So I decided to work the trip, photographically, from
the point of view of trying out new ideas and some of the new
equipment to see how they worked in the field.

- learn how to see with a pinhole/zone plate camera
- re-acquaint myself will full time manual focus shooting ... no AF
fall back at all
- re-acquaint myself with full time manual exposure (do have aperture
priority to work with too)
- concentrate on less shooting and more keepers
- concentrate on more people shooting, in keeping with my other
efforts in street and portraiture this year
- devise a workflow to use the iPad in the field as complementary to
my regular desktop/laptop image management and processing

The results have been good so far. I've been too busy to do much
processing since I returned due to other commitments, but three-four
themes I played with have provided satisfying results.

onwards into the holidays!
