I used to shoot my wife's cakes and pastries (she was the chief pastry chef at 
a rather famous Detroit bakery until she retired.) I generally just used flash 
bounced off a white ceiling with a bit of direct coming off a diffuser. With 
the AF 540 that's easily accomplished by aiming the flash at the ceiling at an 
angle of about 170 degrees and the little white card pulled up. Just about 
perfect for this type of shot.
