I don't think my Mr Coffee has any moving parts other than the on/off
switch.
Is that Melitta a little white plastic cone kind of thingy that sits on
top of a cup? I've got one of those that uses the #2 filters.
The coffee is good, but it's not as convenient as the Mr Coffee because
I can't just set it up, turn it on & walk away to do something else
until the coffee is ready.
I also have a second 4 cup coffee maker that uses those same #2 filters.
I got it while I was at school so I wouldn't have to lug my Mr Coffee
back and forth between home & apartment & risk breaking the carafe. I've
only got one spare carafe left (bought 3 or 4 one time at appliance
repair place that was going out of business) and I don't think they make
that style carafe for the 4 cup makers anymore.
It's my backup in case the Mr Coffee ever packs it in. I'd rate the
coffee it makes as a 9 against the Mr Coffee's 10 ... but that may just
be the difference in city water supplies between Asheboro & Raleigh.
I don't know about the freezer vs refrigerator thing. My self appointed
"expert" said freezer. I don't think it really matters whether you put
the airtight container in the fridge or the freezer. It's the airtight
container that matters.

I used to store coffee beans in the freezer. I was then told by one
who purports to be an expert that freezing the roasted beans is bad
and that they should be stored in an airtight container in the
fridge.
I have been doing so ever since.
I can't say I noticed any difference in taste...
In my experience the best regular (that is to say non-espresso)
coffee is made in a French press. My beautiful SO broke mine some
time ago and I dug out my little 2 cup plastic Melitta cone filter
coffee maker. Surely the simplest coffeemaker in the world (no moving
parts!) it makes surprisingly good coffee.
My current favourite bean is a medium roast French Moka that a local
health food store sells in bulk: Light, nutty, complex and
flavourful.
